The Ionian Sea is a sailor’s dream, featuring gentle breezes, stunning landscapes, and easy access to anchorages. Unlike other parts of Greece, the Ionian islands have charming red-tiled Venetian buildings, lush greenery, and calm waters, as the strong Meltemi winds rarely reach this area.
Sailing here is much like Croatia, with short distances for bay-hopping, “gentleman” winds, and steady weather. While marina amenities may be simpler, the experience is unbeatable, warm hospitality, and delicious Greek cuisine.

Exploring the Ionian Islands: Adventure Awaits
The Ionian islands are easily reached via flights to Preveza. Highlights in the South Ionian include Lefkas, with its gorgeous beaches and limestone cliffs, and Meganissi, famous for its caves and evening Greek dancing. Sail past Ithaka, the mythical home of Odysseus, and Cephalonia, known for its stunning mountains and wines.
Remote Gems and Ideal Season for Sailing
Kalomos and Kastus offer quiet harbours and pristine nature, perfect for a peaceful retreat. If we have extra time, we may visit Zakynthos.
October offers good conditions without the heat — warmer seas, steady winds, and fewer crowds.
